Latest Updates from Our Project:

The box and the tree
about 3 years ago – Sun, Feb 27, 2022 at 07:16:04 PM

Hi all, ready for the last 24h?

We have good news for many of you:

Even if we don't hit 40k, we'll still fit the Huge Package in a single box!!

Are we amazing people?

Not at all!!

We just did our calculations again, including shipping costs, and it seems like overall we will save money if we do so (or at worst pay the same).

Will you save money too, you ask? Most likely NOT!

(Our shipping cost is based on volume, yours is based on weight, we'll double check when we have the trial copies, but weight shouldn't change that much unfortunately)

Still, this seems like a win win situation in the end!

Talking about genuine stretch goals, we unlocked 10 encounter cards, bringing the total to 60 (85 with the outrageous expansion) and 4 automa cards, including an alternative personality for each AI hero!

Well done all! Next on is the Sucko!!

We are livestreaming a game at 19:00 CET (10 am PT), you can join us here on the Stranger Games Studio TWITCH channel , it's basically in 30 mins from now!

These are the WIP sculpts for the Holy Vengeance, Chastity's Sword (included in her mini!), and for the Kabula tree (in the STL files, still missing the token holder on top!).

Still about a day to go in the campaign! What did you enjoy the most so far?

Suggested project

If it wasn't clear wielding a massive sword is kind of our thing and the pixel art of this game is great. Antonio is actually backing the game and wants to play it, if our tastes are similar there is a chance you want to have a look.

 GigaSword - An Action-Puzzle Metroidvania

GigaSword is an action-puzzle metroidvania in which you wield a massive sword with massive weight! By sticking the sword in the ground, you're able to jump higher, swim, crawl through tight spaces, and more - but there’s a catch: you become unable to attack. GigaSword aims to combine the action and platforming of a game like Shovel Knight, the puzzle-box dungeons of The Legend of Zelda, and the metroid-esque progression of titles like Axiom Verge into one cohesive and faithful experience.

Shaggy the Guardian
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 26, 2022 at 11:03:10 PM

Oh worshippers of the Mystic Tree,

Habemus papam!

Well, Habemus Leporem...

...OK. We got the damn rabbit! That's what we mean!

Thanks to all of you for voting, we hope you are as happy as we are with the final result!

And thanks to Blanka for all her great work on this!

Shaggy the rabbit is included in the Conspiracy Expansion and Huge Package. Its main mechanics feature rabbit minions multiplying on the board and the possibility to swallow heroes!

If you like 3D printing upgrades for the tokens, the rabbit minions are included in our STL files Add On (free with the Huge Package as well). This is a WIP, according to what fits best thematically we may opt for a single rabbit per base, but I guess we'd still give you these as well, I mean, they are already done :)

3D sculpt by Rod Tinapay. These rabbits are currently available as STL only.

Some of you have been very keen into helping us reach our next stretch goals and we are very grateful for this. It's great to have such an engaged community willing to support us!

We also realize we haven't given you any real guidelines on our favourite ways to do so, so here they are. Just to stress this out, you are already doing amazing and we love your support, this is just in case you feel like taking an extra step:

  • Share our project with one person who you think may like Kabula. If you are excited about this, maybe you have at least one friend with a similar taste.
  • Share your opinions about Kabula in a Group or Forum or the comment section of a Youtube video (if it's relevant and if that's something you are comfortable doing).

That's basically it :) No need to spam everywhere, throw your health insurance money at us or take a loan out.

In our next update will talk about some of the things which inspired Kabula!

Anything else you would like to know?

For those interested, here is another of our suggested projects! The video explains how to play very clearly, (which is quite refreshing) and the crafting looks great! Proud to support these creators!

SUM8 : A clever strategy game for two

SUM8 is a two-player tile based, puzzle-like strategy game that seems simple at first glance but there’s actually a lot more going on.

Building on the well-known mechanic of matching pips, we reshaped a classic by adding a rearrangeable game board and puzzle aspect to amp up the strategy. The rules are easy to learn, so anyone can just jump right in and play, yet the more you play the more the strategic aspects of the game come to light.

Our muse is the World!
about 3 years ago – Sat, Feb 26, 2022 at 03:28:55 PM

Hi all,

in this special issue of Kabula Update Magazine, we are talking about what inspires our World building :) Thanks to John for suggesting this, we are very happy to talk about it!

The Heroes

Jessika, Zack, Clayton, Isolde, Gotzo, Chastity.

Our heroes draw inspiration from all sorts of human weaknesses and weird behaviour. We are not above these things, of course, we exaggerate traits everybody has to challenge how we perceive things and because we find it funny.

Since there are 6 heroes, each with a starting personality and 3 possible evolutions, we have a pretty wide range of psychological traits to showcase: not learning from past mistakes (delusional Isolde), blaming faults on others (creepy Clayton), sticking to your old beliefs when everything else proves the opposite (basic Chastity) etc.

Jessika pokes fun at those who take a moral stance on something just to feel morally superior than those who don't, but would immediately swap sides when it suits her.

Clayton was originally inspired by a real Italian politician, but we used his personality traits to have fun of the opposition as well.

Gotzo is basically a real person: if you haven't met a middle-aged delivery boy calling you "sheep" for believing in something...well, lucky you! They're everywhere!

The Monsters

Most of the monsters just started out with a stupid idea or a pun. What we spent a lot of effort doing though, is tying the monsters personality with their behaviour. For example, the ScoundrEgg, who is a thug, will deal unblockable damage if you don't give it some cash. The Desert eagle with a desert eagle will shoot everybody around if attacked, no need to hold back with self defence! The Hooting Jinx, the unlucky owlbear, includes coin flipping to check if you hurt yourself when attacking it.

The thematic aspect of these elements ends up creating an ongoing comedy throughout the game session. Probably this is the aspect of the game we love the most.

The Encounters

Like our heroes, encounters draw inspiration from everything that surrounds us: Discussions we have with friends, things we see on the news, but also other games we are playing or movies we are watching. Some cards are almost tributes to something we are fans of (with a ridiculous twist), others are more thought provoking. Others are just so stupid...

Encounter card example (this may change in the final game) the fire symbol indicates the RAGE box in your player mat, you are so upset you place any one Part token there! You were upset before seeing how cheap they are at least...

Hope this was interesting to read! Is there a specific element of the game that aroused your curiosity? Feel free to ask in the comments and we'll give you more info on its origin!

Shipping Help-Sculpts-Survey answers

Hi there,

Hope you are ready for this update, lots of good news today!

Art. We started the campaign with quite a few WIP artwork and as time passed by, our artists work progressed. So here are some new sculpts from Rod Tinapay our amazing 3D artist!

3D sculpt by Rod Tinapay, Illustration by Blanka Sőre

The Plutonium bar, one of the fastest familios available, and the Shaolin Monkey, still seeking redemption for that awkward thing it said at a party, many years ago.

Hope you like them!

Shipping to "expensive" places. The shipping crisis is not our fault (we swear) and we don't make any profit on shipping. Nonetheless, shipping to some countries is so outrageous it makes our Outrageous Expansion look classy. We decided to give a 10 EUR discount to backers of the Huge Package from Australia and from the other countries included as Rest* (of the World) in the shipping table. These include Mexico and Israel, to name a few from where we know we have backers.  We are including this in the table with the other estimates soon, the final price may change with final weight etc, but the 10 EUR off will be the same.

According to our Survey, it seems that most of you are happy with how we are handling things, which is great to know. To answer to the most common feedback and concerns:

Visibility and marketing. We focused what remains of our budget for a final push. We have tons of BGG banners starting Tomorrow and Facebook ads from Saturday. We'll also be sending mails as if the unsubscribe button didn't exist. It should be good!

How to play video. It's too late to shoot and edit a How to play video before the campaign ends, but we will be livestreaming another game on Sunday and we'll go more in depth on the rules before starting!

Page Layout. We are following some of your suggestions to make some "less-visible info" pop out more, thanks for the feedback! Expect these changes by tomorrow evening.

Before saying goodbye, we are getting into some cross promotion with other creators! If you like comics, Bernard, the creator of this project seems like a very nice person and the campaign has options for all price ranges, we are happy to support it :)

Languages and Timeline!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Feb 24, 2022 at 01:31:51 AM

Hi all,

Thanks so much to all of those who filled our survey, you have been great!

We'll get back to most of the points you raised by tomorrow, if in the meanwhile somebody else wants to fill it, it's totally anonymous, so feel free to roast us as you please!

 Feedback Survey!

Translations. This will be sore, but we had promised an update in the last week, and here it is. Despite our efforts, we haven't managed to secure a large enough interest in copies in other languages than English. We will keep trying and maybe things will have changed by the time we get to Pledge Manager.

What we can promise right now is that, if there is any interest, the rulebook will be available online in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German.

We realized we never gave you a timeline for how we want to operate, so here it is! Of course you will be updated along the way as well, and we'll be looking for playtesters and feedback on the art, as usual :)
